Beans and Peas
Leguminous plants are plants that belong to the legumes. The beans (like string beans and French beans) and peas (like green peas and marrowfat peas) are rich in protein, vitamin B and iron. Other used names are snap beans, runner beans and sugar peas. Tip: Pick the pods frequently so that new strong pods are produced.

Capuchins can be compared to garden peas, only the peas are consumed. It is most common to consume the peas fresh, freezing after blanching is also possible. A final option is to let the capuchin peas ripen and use the dried peas.

Different types of pea varieties: Common peas and rice peas, crinkle-seeded and round-seeded peas, early and late varieties.

Did you know that crinkly-seeded peas are much sweeter than round-seeded peas?

Pods are available in 2 varieties; low-growing stem pods and high climbing pods.

The low pod has the advantage that they do not need support and are planted closer together.

Green beans is a collective name for different types of green beans, in addition to the normal green bean, think of haricot verts, Chinese beans, lapwing beans and the yellow butter beans or wax beans.

These beans are green beans with longer and fleshier pods than regular green beans. The fleshy pods of beans can grow up to 30cm long and are round in diameter. These beans therefore need good support.

Sow broad beans directly in the field at the destination from the end of February to mid-May. For early cultivation, sow broad beans under glass from January and plant out at the beginning of March.
