Fennel 'Solaris F1' is excellent for spring, summer and autumn cultivation, a real all-rounder. The variety does not suffer from dryness or woodiness. It is a good grower that produces fast harvestable, round tubers with a juicy texture and a subtle aniseed flavour. This variety is very suitable for growing tender baby fennels with beautiful, feathery foliage. Also suitable for greenhouse cultivation.
Sowing fennel on a seed bed is not a good idea. Planting out from such a bed can bring growth to a standstill, resulting in early flower formation. Mind you, the plants are sensitive to summer shoots. After harvesting, the tubers can be stored in the refrigerator for a few days. That has to be fairly cool, preferably just above freezing and with a high relative humidity due to the risk of dehydration.
Greenhouse cultivation
Pre-sowing: 6-8 weeks before transplanting
Transplanting: January-March (covering necessary)
Harvest: early April-mid May, approx. 80 days after transplanting
Outdoor cultivation
Pre-sowing 6-8 weeks before planting out
Planting out: mid-March-end of July
Harvest: mid-May-beginning of November
Planting distance: 40x20 cm
Soil: well drained with a pH of 6.1-8
Resistance: good resistance to drying edge, cracks and tears
