Description

Watermelon Charleston Gray Seeds

The Charleston Gray watermelon is a favorite among gardeners for its reliable growth and delicious flavor. This variety produces oblong fruits with light green to pale gray skin, weighing between 10 and 13 kg. The deep pink flesh is exceptionally sweet and juicy, perfect for summer snacks and desserts.

  • Large, sweet fruits: Enjoy juicy watermelons weighing up to 13 kg.
  • Easy cultivation: Suitable for both greenhouse and outdoor growing.
  • Quick harvest: Ready to pick within 85-95 days.
  • Versatile use: Perfect for salads, desserts, and summer treats.

Cultivation Method
Sowing: Sow watermelon seeds indoors in late March - May at a constant temperature of at least 20°C. Use individual pots about 7 cm in diameter and plant one seed per pot, about 1 cm deep. Keep the soil moist but avoid overwatering to prevent rot. Once the first true leaves appear, transplant the seedlings into larger pots about 13 cm in diameter.

After the last frost, usually around mid-May, gradually acclimate the young plants to outdoor temperatures before planting them in the ground. Choose a sunny, warm, and sheltered location with well-draining soil. For optimal results, greenhouse cultivation is recommended. Water the plants regularly and feed them with liquid fertilizer every 14 days.

Watermelons develop fruit on the side shoots. Pinch the main shoot after the fourth leaf to encourage side shoot growth. Train these side shoots along the ground or trellises to provide sufficient space. In greenhouse conditions, manual pollination may be necessary.

Harvesting: After approximately 85 to 95 days, the fruits will be ripe. Check ripeness by tapping the fruit; a hollow sound indicates that it is ready for harvest.
