However, the naming of New Zealand spinach may be confusing. New Zealand spinach belongs to the Portulacaceae family (purslanidae) and therefore looks different from regular spinach.

Leaves and stems of New Zealand spinach can be picked regularly. The method of preparation is the same as with spinach. Because the plants are sensitive to frost and the seeds only germinate at higher temperatures, it is best to sow in April in a container under a glass. A large planting distance of 50 cm is desirable.
