Sowing

Sow the runner bean seeds in the garden from mid-May to mid-June. The simplest cultivation method is by placing (tonkin) canes in rows. Each stick is placed 3-4 beans (approx. 3 cm deep). Runner beans are slightly less weather sensitive than string beans, but they do need sufficient heat and moderately moist soil. The beans germinate poorly in cold weather. Never use fresh farmyard manure with runner beans.

Harvesting

The pods can be harvested in August, September and October. Preferably pick the pods young. Pick regularly. Suitable for freezing.
