Sowing Instructions for Golden Hubbard Pumpkin

Sow the Golden Hubbard pumpkin from late April to mid-June, preferably in a seedbed in open ground or directly at the desired location. Sow the seeds about 2 to 3 cm deep in well-loosened, fertile soil.

When sowing, keep a generous plant spacing of approximately 100 x 100 cm, as pumpkins need plenty of space to grow well. Choose a sunny, sheltered spot and enrich the soil with compost or well-rotted manure for vigorous growth.

When is a Pumpkin Ripe?

Harvest pumpkins from September to October, but always before the first night frost. A pumpkin is ripe when the stem begins to dry out and shows small wrinkles or cracks. The fruit will have stopped growing and will appear slightly duller in colour, while the skin usually becomes more intensely coloured.

Harvesting Pumpkins

When harvesting, leave about 5 to 8 cm of stem attached to the pumpkin. Harvest in dry conditions and avoid bruising or damaging the fruits. Store in a dry, frost-free place and avoid stacking the pumpkins on top of each other.
