Black Beauty Summer Squash/Zucchini is the well-known dark green, delicious-tasting and versatile courgette variety from Italy. Harvest the courgette at a young stage, at 15-20 cm. The plant then continues to produce new fruits for a long time.

Sowing

The seeds of the zucchini are large, oval and therefore easy to sow.

Pre-sow the organic zucchini seeds indoors from mid-April, or sow the seeds directly outside in the open ground from the end of May to the end of June.

Zucchini seedlings are somewhat more difficult to transplant because of the roots, so sow each seed in a separate pot at the same time. Press the zucchini seeds on their sides about 2 cm deep into the sowing soil. Sowing the oval seeds on their side makes them much easier to germinate and less likely to rot.

Plant out

From mid-May (Ice Saints) the zucchini plants can be planted outside in a warm and sunny spot. To ensure that pollination is optimal, plant several zucchini plants together. Keep a planting distance of 100 x 100 cm, the plants will grow quite large.

Harvest

You can harvest the first courgettes from mid-July. Zucchini grow quickly under the right conditions, so check regularly for new courgettes when the weather is nice.

Pick the zucchini at an early stage for the best taste, with most varieties this is when the zucchini is about 15 cm long. By picking the courgettes young and regularly, you also stimulate new fruit formation and enjoy the plants more.
