Shiraz purple pod is a beautiful rice pod crop with two-tone pink-purple-red flowers and special purple pods. Shiraz pods not only add color to the vegetable garden, but would also look great in an ornamental garden.
Pick the pods young and cook or stir-fry the pods only briefly, otherwise the purple color will disappear and they will turn dark green.
The plants of the Shiraz rice pod grow to a height of approx. 90 cm, so it is recommended to support the plants along wire mesh or brushwood.

Sow directly in the open ground from early February to April. Sow in lines or rows with a spacing of 140 cm and space the seeds 5 cm in the row. Make sure that the soil remains sufficiently moist during growth.
For all capuchins, peas and pods, an early cultivation (March/April) yields better results. With a later cultivation from May, this can cause fewer pods and problems with mildew.
In connection with mice and birds, sow sufficiently deep: 3-4 cm.
Harvest the pods from June to July. Pick the pods as young as possible while they are still juicy. Pick regularly, the peas will taste mealy when you pick later.
Pods are suitable for freezing.
Interchangeable cultivation
It is wise to also use crop rotation for pods. Only place pods in the same spot once every 6 years to minimize the risk of infection by fungal diseases.
