Sowing
Sow strawberry seeds indoors in January-March in a seed tray filled with sowing and cutting soil mixture. Strawberry seeds are very small, so do not cover the seeds with soil, but press them lightly with the inside of your hand. Lightly mist the strawberry seeds with lukewarm water. Then cover the seed tray with cling film or a transparent lid, as strawberries are light germinators.
The optimal sowing temperature is 20 degrees Celsius. Make sure that the seed does not dry out and mist again if necessary. As soon as the first green dots of the seedlings appear, the cling film can be removed.
TIP!: For best results, use a small greenhouse with a transparent lid.
First 2 small germ leaves appear. You can prick out as soon as the first two real strawberry leaves appear. Transplanting involves spacing the plants wider apart or transplanting them into separate pots. When the plants are approximately 4 cm tall, plant them outside in sets of 2. Maintain a planting distance of 50 x 30 cm between the groups. Water regularly.
Harvesting
Before the plants bloom and bear fruit, the plants must first grow well. The first year the plants therefore only bloom in the autumn, in subsequent years most strawberries bloom from May to June. You can start harvesting in the summer. The flowering period and harvest period may differ per species.
