How to grow Alfalfa sprouts
Sprouting seeds can be grown indoors all year round. Use about one tablespoon of seeds per batch. First, rinse the seeds thoroughly and soak them in water for about 6 hours. Then let them germinate in a sprouting jar or sprouter at around 15–20°C. Keep them out of direct sunlight and preferably in a dark place for pale, tender sprouts.
Rinsing
Rinse the sprouts thoroughly two to three times per day to keep them fresh and clean. In warm weather, rinse more often. Proper rinsing is essential for a healthy and tasty result. Always drain excess water well.
Storage
After harvesting, the sprouts can be stored in a closed container in the refrigerator for a few days. If you place the sprouter in the light, the sprouts will turn green and develop more leaves.
Note: Alfalfa should be briefly heated before consumption, for example by blanching or stir-frying.
