Sow White Lisbon spring onions seeds from March to May directly in the garden in rows spaced approximately 15cm apart. Thin out slightly after about 6 weeks, as the spring onions develop quite a lot of branches and leaves.
Choose a sunny and warm location where the soil does not get too wet. Keep the soil sufficiently moist during cultivation.
Spring onions belong to the garlic family, so keep a crop rotation to prevent diseases and pests caused by nematodes and fungi. Plant onion-like on the same plot only once every 5-6 years. Remember that garlic, leeks, shallots, welsh onions and leeks are also onion-like.
Onions combine very well with carrots, so-called good neighbors. Two common pests drive each other away, namely the carrot fly and the onion fly. For example, sow alternately a row of carrots and onions (spring onions).
Harvest spring onions from July to September as soon as the onions have a diameter of 2 to 3 cm. Only harvest the spring onions you need, as the spring onions have a limited shelf life after harvest.
