Sow eggplant seeds indoors from January to April in a seed tray filled with sowing soil. Sow the aubergine seeds about 0.5 cm deep and not too close together. Preferably use a heated propagator. Eggplant seeds only germinate at a constant temperature of 23-25 °C. Moisten the soil regularly. The seeds germinate after about 2-3 weeks.
Tip! : If the temperature is too cold, the seeds will not germinate and/or the plant will stop growing. Therefore, for best results, use a heated propagator.
Wait with transplanting until the seedling has about 2 full grown leaves, not just the germination leaves.
Start hardening the aubergine plants around mid-May by leaving them outside for a few hours every day. Then plant the aubergine plants in groups of 3 in large containers or in the vegetable garden. Keep a planting distance between the groups of 80 x 70 cm.
You can harvest the aubergines in August and September. Ripe aubergines can be recognized by squeezing them gently. If the aubergine yields slightly and has a nice color, they are ready to harvest.
