The Barletta White pickling Onions
The Barletta is a popular pickling onion that can also be enjoyed fresh. This variety produces small, white, delicately flavored onions with a beautiful round shape early in the season. Perfect for home pickling or as a fresh addition to summer dishes.
Sowing
Sow Barletta pickling onion seeds directly into the open ground from March to the end of May, in rows spaced 15 cm apart. Sow densely to produce small onions, ideal for pickling. Want larger onions for fresh use? Sow more sparsely. Keep the soil well-moist and use insect netting to protect against onion fly.
Harvesting
Harvest the onions between July and August. Allow them to dry well for storage, or process them immediately in vinegar or oil. Thanks to their delicate texture, these onions are a classic for pickled condiments!
