Plant the allium bulbs from September to December with the tip upwards and roots down. Plant the allium bulbs in small groups of 5 bulbs, this is already very decorative. Plant the bulbs about 15 cm deep and 15 cm apart.
Ornamental onions require well-drained soil. If the soil in your garden is heavy clay, mix in some sharp sand or peat to improve drainage.
Alliums bloom from May to June.
After the flowering period, cut the dead flowers from the alliums. Leave the leaves on the plant until they turn yellow and wither. In this way, all energy goes back to the bulb and you will enjoy the alliums again the following year.
