Plant allium bulbs from September to December tip up and roots down. Plant the Gladiator allium bulbs about 20 cm deep and 30 cm apart.
Ornamental onions require well-drained soil. If the soil in your garden is heavy clay, mix in some sharp sand or peat to improve drainage.
Alliums bloom from May to June.
After the flowering period, cut the dead flowers from the alliums. Leave the leaves on the plant until they turn yellow and wither. In this way, all energy goes back to the bulb and you will enjoy the alliums again the following year.
