Plant Imperial Crowns as soon as possible after purchase from September to December with the roots down. Plant these red Fritillaria about 20 cm deep and 30 cm apart.
Plant the imperial crowns solitary or in groups in a place with full sun or partial shade. Because of its length and large red flowers, choose a somewhat sheltered location so that the imperial crown is not exposed to extreme winds.
Imperial Crowns require well-drained soil. If the soil in your garden is heavy clay, mix in some sharp sand or peat to improve drainage.
Imperial crowns bloom from April to May.
