How do you use Chives?
Finely chopped chives have a strong onion flavor and are often used in egg dishes, salads and soups. Only add the finely chopped chives to a dish just before serving, do not let it boil. The flowers are also edible, use them whole or finely chopped in salads and as a garnish.
How do you grow Chives?
Sow the chive seeds outdoors in rows or in flower pots from March to August. In the fall, put some plants from the garden in a pot, cut off the leaves and grow them indoors.
Because chive seeds germinate best in the colder days, it is best to sow the Chive seeds in early spring. To promote leaf growth in the second and subsequent years, the flower stems should be removed. The first year the chive plant will not be big enough to harvest fully, the second year it has become a beautiful mature chive plant. Harvest the chives when the stems are about 15cm.
