How to sow pumpkins

Sow under glass in April and transplant into pots. From mid-May, seedlings can be planted outdoors, or you can sow directly into the open ground from then on.

When is a pumpkin ripe?

Harvest pumpkins from September to October, and definitely before the first night frost. A pumpkin is ripe when the stems start to dry out and show small wrinkles/cracks. At this point, the pumpkin has stopped growing and the skin becomes slightly duller. Usually, the color also becomes more intense.

Harvesting Pumpkins

Leave about 5 to 8 cm of stem attached when harvesting the pumpkin. Harvest in dry conditions and avoid bruising or damaging the fruit. Store in a dry, frost-free place and avoid stacking the pumpkins on top of each other.
