The Gayfeather has a long spikes on a fairly thick stem (several spikes per plant). The small flowers, which start to bloom from above, are purplish pink in color and the green ones are long and narrow. This species can reach a height of 70 centimeters. Liatris spicata likes moist, but well-drained soil and can therefore also be planted near a pond.
