How do you grow onions?

Sow the seed onions in the period March to the end of May at a row spacing of 25 cm, thin out at 5-10 cm in the row. Sowing depth: about 5 mm. Placing strongly scented plants such as chamomile, savory and carrots in the immediate vicinity of the onions could have a disruptive effect on the onion fly.

When growing onion, it is important to continue to remove weeds regularly, as the crop will not completely cover the soil. Suitable for all types of soil.

When do you harvest seed onions?

In the months of August - October, the foliage will lie flat (i.e. 'iron') and die. Pull the onions out of the ground, foliage and all, and let the bulbs dry in an airy spot, out of full sun. The onions can be stored well into spring, provided they are kept cool and dry.
