Family beans can generally be sown a little earlier than pole beans. Because stem beans do not need support, choosing a suitable location is easier.
Sow the standard beans directly in the field from mid-May to mid-July. For early cultivation, sow under glass from mid-April and plant out in the second half of May.
For early cultivation, standard beans can be pre-sown in a greenhouse from late March to mid-May.
During germination and during the initial growth period, the stem beans need a lot of heat. After that, beans also need sufficient heat and moderately moist soil. Therefore, choose a sunny and sheltered position in the garden or greenhouse. Especially with early or late sowing, the results are highly dependent on the weather.
In wet and cold weather, the beans germinate poorly, so do not sow earlier than the indicated period. The beans can also be pre-soaked overnight to speed up germination.
All standard beans require a humus-rich, slightly moist soil, but do not use fresh farmyard manure, this contains too much nitrogen and causes too much leaf growth.
Keep a planting distance of approximately 40 x 10 cm.
