How do I grow zucchini?
The seeds of the zucchini are large, oval and therefore very easy to sow.
From mid-April you can sow the zucchini seeds indoors, or sow the seeds directly outdoors from late May to late June.
Zucchini seedlings are somewhat more difficult to transplant because of the roots, therefore sow each seed in a separate pot. Press the zucchini seeds on their side about 2 cm deep in the sowing soil. Sowing the oval seeds on their sides makes them germinate much easier and reduces the risk of rotting.
Plant outdoors
From mid-May, the zucchini plants can be planted outdoors at a warm and sunny place. To ensure the pollination is optimal, plant several zucchini plants together. Keep a planting distance of about 100 x 100 cm, the plants can become quite large.
Harvesting
You can harvest the first zucchini from mid-July. Courgettes grow quickly under the right conditions, so check regularly for new courgettes during good weather.
For the best taste harvest the zucchini at an early stage, with most varieties this is when the zucchini is about 15cm long. By picking the courgettes young and regularly, you will also stimulate the plant for new courgettes and enjoy the plants more.
