How do I sow zucchini?
The seeds of the zucchini are large, oval and therefore easy to sow.
Sow the zucchini seeds indoors from mid-April, or sow the seeds directly outdoors from the end of May to the end of June.
Zucchini seedlings are somewhat more difficult to transplant because of the roots, so sow each seed in a separate pot immediately. Press the zucchini seeds on their sides about 2 cm deep into the sowing soil. Sowing the oval seeds on their sides makes them much easier to germinate and less likely to rot.
Planting out
From mid-May (Ice Saints), the zucchini plants may be planted outside in a warm and sunny spot. To ensure optimal pollination, plant several zucchini plants together. Maintain a planting distance of 100 x 100 cm, the plants will be quite large.
Harvesting
You can harvest the first courgettes from mid-July. Courgettes grow quickly under the right conditions, so check regularly for new courgettes in good weather.
Pick the courgettes at an early stage for the best flavor, with most varieties this is when the courgette is about 15cm long. By picking the courgettes young and regularly, you also stimulate new fruit formation and you have more pleasure from the plants.
