The Amaranthus is usually called Amaranth. The flower spikes of the Amaranthus grow upright or pendulous, depend on the species.

The Amaranthus is an annual exotic plant and is used as an ornamental plant, but some varieties are cultivated as a vegetable (Chinese spinach, Bayam or Hin choy).

The Amaranth plants need nutrient-rich, sunny, well-drained soil.
