Description
This yellow orange Habanero pepper is the most famous chili pepper in the world. Habanero peppers are particularly graceful hot peppers that are highly valued in Mexico, South America and the Caribbean for their special aroma.
- Very old pepper variety
- Scoville scale heat: 325,000 SHU
The Habanero is 40 times hotter than a Jalapeno pepper! Place the Habanero Pepper Plant in a warm spot for optimal production.
Cultivation method / sowing Habanero Yellow Orange
Peppers are plants that need warmth. The seeds of these plants must already be at the right temperature before sowing. Start sowing in February. Mix four parts potting soil and one part sharp sand.
- Place the seeds and cutting soil in a heated room the day before.
- Moisten the soil well and place the seeds on top.
- Give lukewarm water, sprinkle a thin layer of sand over it and cover the whole thing with a glass plate or use a (heated) growing or greenhouse.
- Place on the windowsill or above the radiator at a temperature of 20-25 °C so that the soil temperature remains around 28-30 °C.
- As soon as the first green shoots become visible, remove the glass plate.
- Water occasionally with a spray bottle or plant sprayer.
- After about ten weeks you can plant the plants (outside) in a pot. Wait until the end of May (after the Ice Saints) and preferably until the beginning of June.
Planting out in a pot
It is best to plant out peppers in a pot. This way you can easily move them with the sun. The plants do not only need warmth while growing. They prefer a sunny, sheltered spot.
- Take a large pot of about 15 litres.
- Place three plants in the pot, at the same distance from each other and as close to the edge of the pot as possible.
- Place the pot preferably near a sunny brick wall facing south: the bricks still give off quite a bit of heat in the evening.
- Always remove the first flower that grows on the plant, this way you will get a better harvest later.
- After four to six weeks you should fertilize the soil every week. Do this with liquid fertilizer for flowering houseplants or fertilizers for flower boxes and tub plants
Harvesting peppers
Peppers are ready to pick when you can no longer push the flesh in. Peppers are best cut while retaining as long a stem as possible.
